QUILTING CLASSES

We offer a wide variety of classes from the beginner to advanced.

COMING THIS FALL ... Two New Block of the Month Programs.  Pine Needles - FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, and ANTIQUE CHRISTMAS MEMORIES made with Nancy Halvorsen fabrics. 

Regular priced fabric purchased for classes will be discounted 15%,  excluding premade kits.

FAITH HOPE LOVE - with Jacki (Intermediate)
First Saturday of the month, starting Nov 1, 2008 to July 4, 2009
An absolutely stunning quilt by McKenna Ryan. Each block is pieced using various strips of her stunning fabric collection and then each has an applique design fused to the background.  A small quilt, 42" x 42" but with a large impact.  Join us once a month for the class or pick up your block and complete it at home.
COST: Three payments of $80.00 each, Nov, Feb & May for kit pick up and three payments of $95.00 each, Nov, Feb & May for kit plus class.

 

Antique Christmas Memories - with Jacki (Intermediate)
Last Saturday of the month, starting  Sept 27 - 1:30 - 4:00 pm

Join the class or pick it up to complete at home.

This beautiful quilt will be a treasured heirloom for years to come.  You and your family will look forward to this quilt hanging on your wall as a Christmas tradition.

Start the quilt now and by next Christmas you will have a beautiful Christmas keepsake for years to come.  Appliqued and pieced blocks are included in this 58" x 72" quilt, using Nancy Halvorsen's "Star of Wonder" fabric collection.
This quilt will also be available as a kit.

Winter Graphics Christmas Wallhanging- with Cathy (Intermediate)
Dates:  Wed,  Oct 15 and 29   - 6:30 -9:30 pm
This stunning wall quilt featuring Wintergraphix by In The Beginning fabric will be an eye catching addition to your Christmas decor. 
This quilt will also be available as a kit.

Rainbow Forest - Lynda (Intermediate)          Block of the Month
Dates:  Friday Oct 10  Choose 9:30 - 12:00 am     or    6:30 -9:00 pm  Pick up date: 2nd Fri of month

There will be one introductory class to discuss working with wool felt, applique blanket stitch (machine or hand). Pick up remaining blocks each month.  There will also be one finishing class at the end to learn how to put it all together.           All wool felt will be machine washed for you.


Looking for something different.  This block of the month program features applique and wool felt.  The subtle colours of wool felt stand out against a background of solid black.  Very unusual but very effective.  Come in and see our sample.

Putting It Together - Sheila (Beginner)
DATE:  Thursday Oct 30  or Nov 11 - 6:30 - 9:00 pm
This class will begin by teaching you how to layer and baste your backing fabric, batting and top to prepare your quilt for either hand or machine quilting (your domestic machine). Then Sheila will teach lap quilting. Learn about needles, thimbles, thread and where to quilt.

Braid Runner - with Lynda (Intermediate)
DATE:  Friday Mornings - November 7 and 14 - 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
A great looking table runner which is sewn with a "quilt as you go" method.  After piecing the quilt, there is only binding and you are done!  Make it for Christmas, winter decorating or to match your home decor.  Fabrics are your choice.

Chick-a-Dee Hollow - with Lynda (Intermediate)
DATE:  Thursday mornings - Oct. 23, 30 and Nov. 6 - 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Make this festive holiday wallhanging or table topper from the Birchwood Lane collection of fabrics and patterns.  A cute little chick-a-dee (or Cardinal) is the centre focal point of the quilt.  (Bonus candle mat fabric included in kit).

 "Coming Home" Stained Glass Quilt- with Cathy (Intermediate)
DATE:  Wednesday, Oct. 8, 22 and Nov. 5 - 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This 25-3/4" x 39" Christmas wallhanging is made using the Clover 1/4" fusible bias tape, or we can teach you how to make your own bias tape.  The pattern has easy to follow instructions including a numbered sequence for bias strip appliation and options for transferring the pattern to your background fabric.  Kits will be available.  Purchase of the fusible bias tape or  fabric to make your own bias tape is in addition to the kit.

 Harvest Wallhanging - with Jacki Morningstar(Intermediate)                   DATE :  Wednesday, September 17, Oct 1, 8  1:30 - 4:00 pm    

Celebrate the Harvest season with this charming ensemble of acorns, blossoms and leaves. This pattern is one of the Vintage Postcard Collection.

Beginner's Quilting - with Sheila
Dates:  Thursday Sept 25, Oct 9, 16, 23   6:30 - 8:30 pm
Make a  lap size quilt using three basic blocks. You will learn to cut and sew accurately and use a rotary cutter.  You must know how to sew and operate your own sewing machine, which should be in good working order as there is homework.  A rotary cutter, mat and ruler are a must for this class.
COST:  $50.00 plus supplies (pattern included)

 

 

Tea Towel Bag - with Cathy
DATES:  Thursday, November 6 - 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
We've got better things to do with tea towels than dry dishes with!  Join us for a fun evening of simple sewing to learn how to turn two co-ordinating tea towels and a set a purse handles into this cute handbag.  You have the option of also adding an easily constructed wool flower pin for embellishment.  Great for Christmas gift-giving!

Holly Table Runner - with Lynda (Intermediate)

Sweatshirt Cardigan  with Cathy Hetherington (Intermediate) 

DATE: Wednesday Nov 12, 26   6:30 - 9:30 pm

Decorate a sweatshirt with fusible, machine applique.We have several applique patterns to choose from.

 In The Pink - with Jacki (Intermediate)              DATE:Thursday, Oct 23, Nov 13, 20    1:30 - 4:00 pm

 Warm and wonderful pink and chocolate prints from Henry Glass, pattern designed by Buggy Barn. Finished quilt measures 64" x 78". The special ruler makes it easy to put this pattern together. The pattern uses two blocks, the snowball block and the kaleidoscope block. Blocks are set on point.

Bag of Distinction  with Sheila Durksen

DATE: Tuesday Oct 28, Nov 4   2:00 - 4:00 pm

This bag is made with two meters of fabric, two contrasting colours.  Start with sewing these two meters together, fold as directed and you end up with a purse with 3 large pocket sections.
